Making The Move

Nearly all Swedes speak good English – something that can come in useful when you first arrive in Sweden. Once here, you will realise that the Swedish language is easier to learn than you might think. The free Swedish training you receive from your school will help you to learn the language and in turn get to know the culture and the people of Sweden.

Out of our almost 500 teachers over 200 are from outside Sweden. Teachers have moved to us from countries as far away as New Zealand and Japan. We assist you with obtaining a work visa (not necessary for EU residents), with finding accommodations and getting to know your local area. As a new teacher you receive induction training covering the school’s routines, policies and Swedish law as well as receiving a mentor to help you settle in to your new school.

Naturally, you will be welcomed by everyone at your school. Regular social events help knit the team together. We do everything we can to help make the move to IES and Sweden.

For detailed information from your nearest embassy regarding visas and working in Sweden, see www.swedenabroad.com.

The first step you take in making the move is to apply for a position. You do this by making an online application through our website: New Applications

Applicants will be interviewed either in person or by telephone where necessary. The details of the teaching contract and expectations of professionals who want to join our team can be found on the above careers webpage.
