French Department Update

On Thursday the 29th of May 5 students represented our school at the annual “grand final” of the IES song contest for Spanish, French and German songs. This year the event was hold at IES Eskiltuna. To our great pleasure, one of our students, Malin Häger in 9D won the overall singing competition with a French song originally sung by Edith Piaf: “La Vie en Rose”.  Congratulations to Malin for her exceptional performance and to the four students of 9B who sung “La Bamba”.

Malin’s victory means that the event will be held in IES Enskede next year. The department of Modern languages looks forward to that.

Between the 28th of April and the 4th of May 38 year 8 and 9 students went to Lille in the north of France to stay at their pen-friends families while the French students visited us a week later. The exchange was a success. We visited Lille, Paris, Bruges and Breendonk in Belgium. Our students have hopefully increased their French skills and made friends for life.

Med Vänlig Hälsning

Modern Language Song Contest 2010

Internationella Engelska Skolans Yearly Modern Language Song Contest was held in Eskilstuna Thursday April 29th 2010. Malin Häger from year 9 in Enskede was one of the first contestants to perform with the French song “La Vie en Rose” playing the guitar at the same time. Malin was crowned the winner for her musical talent, French pronunciation and interpretation of Edith Piaf – giving the Jury “goose bumps”.

Talking about Family and Interests in French

Year 6

The students have just learnt the French alphabet and the most common classrooms phrases that will enable them to speak mostly French during lessons. And  of course we will talk about how we celebrate Christmas in France. After the break the students will shortly present their family.

Year 7

We have just finished a chapter called “Ma famille” where the students have written an essay about their real family or an imaginary one. Furthermore the pupils have interviewed each other. And  of course we will talk about how we celebrate Christmas in France.  After the break they will present more about themselves .

Year 8

We have started a chapter about Sport where the students will interview each other about their sport habits. After that we will go to a French restaurant (or at least we will pretend…) and order a dinner.

Year 9

We have just finished a chapter about school where the students interview each other about everything about the school (teachers, schedule, food, subjects etc…)

After the Christmas break we will learn to write and talk about how life was when we were young(er)  (imperfect)  before we move on to a chapter called “Ma ville” where the students will do a tourist brochure about Stockholm.

French Culture and Edith Piaf
