Welcome to the International English School Enskede
As we swiftly move toward the end of the 2nd academic term we find ourselves once again in what is probably the busiest period of the whole year. This is of course a fantastic time with all sorts of activities taking place culminating in end of year ceremonies for year groups 4 through 8 and Graduation for year 9.
Two recent events that I have been particularly pleased about have been the Creative Arts Evening held by our Junior School and the Charity Week organized and run by our Student Council.
The Junior School Creative Arts Evening put on display a startling array of IESE student talent in all its forms. I never cease to be amazed at the levels our students are able to reach. My thanks to our talented and dedicated staff who gave our students this opportunity?
The student council charity week has been a magnificent display of what can be achieved by young people when they strive together toward a common goal. I was very happy when our student council came to me earlier in the year with a plan to raise money for charity. They wanted to send help to the earthquake victims in Haiti via “Rädda Barnen.” Various activities were staged during week 18 which together with a 10 000 sek donation from the school raised a grand total of 50 000sek. This money will be handed over to a representative of “Rädda Barnen” here at the IESE on Monday 31st May.
I am very proud to be the principal of this school.
Kindest Regards,
Robert Clark
Welcome to the International English School Enskede
At the present time staff and students are very busy with the assessments and reporting associated with our midterm development talks. These meetings are an essential part of our schools striving for academic excellence. Students are encouraged to do all that they can to reach the maximum of their potential whatever that may be.
This week our year 9 students have taken their English national test Part B. The final part C will take place during week 12. We are quietly confident that our students will again perform at a very high level. Congratulations to our English department who have for two years had the highest English national test results in the whole IES organization.
We have been very honored by the fact that our organization has, during the last two years, frequently chosen IESE to represent the IES as a whole when important guests have sought to find about our school system. This began with the UK shadow minister of education Mr. Gove who came to our school at the beginning of last year as part of a fact finding mission. This was then followed by a whole series of visit by various groups from many sections of UK Education and finance including senior officials from Cambridge University. In April we will be visited by the UK version of “Skolverket” who are keen to learn more about “Friskolor”. We look forward to their visit. Please check out our main website for more info on the exciting school developments taking place in the UK at the moment.
As the winter now slowly turns to spring the weather forecasters predict a fantastic May and June. Either way I am sure that we will have a great end to the school year.
To find out more about that which is happening in our school please look at our website update section.

Welcome to the Spring Term at IESE
A very warm welcome back to school and the new decennium. I trust that everyone has had a fantastic winter holiday and that all are well rested and ready for another great term here at IESE.
Our non teaching staff have been busy over the break striving to improve our school. Teachers returned Thursday last week, working hard planning and preparing for the start of the spring term.
I look forward to working together with everyone in our common goal of helping our students reach the maximum of their potential.
For more information regarding the many interesting things taking place within our school please go to the update section of our webpage.

We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Once again a fantastic autumn term at our school draws to a close. As previously, this has been made possible by the hard working and dedicated staff and students of the IESE, who meet each day in order to strive for excellence together.
Last week we all very much enjoyed our wonderful Junior and Middle school Lucia Performances. Congratulations to Mr. Close and Ms. Bouras, Mrs. Whistance-Smith and Mrs. Myrman who gave their time to organize these renditions. In the event that you would like to see our choir in action and at the same time help raise money for charity there will be a presentation for parents and families in our Aula Tuesday 15th December at 19.00. Our thanks once more to Ms. Bouras and Mr. Close for their fantastic work in making this event possible.
Please take a look at the update and subject sections of our webpage to find out more regarding the many other interesting and exciting things going on at our school.
Again I would like to wish you all a very pleasant and relaxing winter holiday and look forward to seeing everyone safe and sound in the New Year.

As the leaves turn gold

Welcome to the Internationella Engelska Skolan Enskede.
What a fantastic time of year autumn is. The trees are full of color and the air is fresh and clear. This is without a doubt my favorite time of year.
Here at the IESE we are busy with all sorts of interesting tasks and projects designed to maintain and develop our fine school.
Staff are busy with Mid – Term Reports and students are working hard on assignments as we move closer to our SPT Conferences in week 43. We look forward to having the chance to meet with parents and students in order to create development plans that enhance learning.
Tuesday 6th sees us again taking part in the DN Nutidsorientering where our students get the opportunity to test their general knowledge in current affairs. We look forward to our young people doing even better than last year in this national event sponsored by the Dagens Nyheter newspaper.
Our new display area outside the Aula is now being utilized to exhibit excellent student work. These purpose built glass display cabinets have significantly improved our ability to show the outstanding things being done around our school.
We have continued to focus on the introduction of interactive whiteboards here at the IESE with three new units being introduced this term. I am sure that the Modern Language and Social Studies departments will put them to excellent use. The third unit will soon be in place in our Junior School. This brings the total number of Smart boards in our school to six.
We continue to develop our cooperation with Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) this year with the inclusion of English 1 and 2. This now means that our students have the opportunity to obtain a world recognized qualification in Science, Maths and English at the end of year 9. These qualifications will be very useful to our students as they clearly demonstrate the ability to follow a rigorous course of study in an academic subject in English.
Our schedule this year has been designed to enable us to facilitate extracurricular activities after school. These include, school choir, school band, volleyball, rugby, football, basketball, floor ball, and debate club. There are also informal after school extra activities taking place in art and music. We thank our staff for making these activities available to our students.

A Warm Welcome To The IESE 2009
I trust that everyone has had a fantastic summer and that all are rested and relaxed, looking forward to the start of a fantastic new school year. I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone within our school community, both new and old. I am confident that we will together create another outstanding school year here at the IESE. Our new students in year 4 are no doubt excited, and perhaps even a little nervous, as the startup day at their new school approaches. It is almost time for us to, together; begin our fantastic educational journey toward bilingualism and academic excellence. This is of course also true for a small number of students who will be joining us in other year groups. IESE Staff have been busy for some time now, making sure that everything is ready for our students when they begin on Monday 17th August. Please refer to the update page on our website or to schoolsoft in order to get more information regarding that which is happening at our school. I am confident that I speak for everyone working here at the IESE when I state that we are looking forward to meeting you all again and that we are committed to doing everything that we can to help our students get the best out of their school year. Mr. Robert Clark Principal

Welcome to the IESE Middle School
Spring term is now well under way with lots of interesting events and activities taking place. This school year four of our Middle Schools were placed in the top twenty schools in Sweden based on our Year 9 grade point average. This is something that both we and our organization are rightly proud of. Congratulations to staff and students whose hard work and dedication made this fantastic result possible.
Last year approximately 30 of our Year 9 students sat the Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics and Science examinations. This school year our Year 9 students will be able to take IGCSE English, Science and Mathematics. This is possible due to the fact that our school is an accredited Cambridge International Centre. These qualifications are world recognized and complement the Swedish grades that all Year 9 students receive.
Year 7 students have been working with Mr. Toste on “Verbal Judo”. Via this presentation students learn about communication skills and conflict management. Student evaluations have shown that this is something that our students find very valuable. This activity is an integral part of our proactive Student Care Program. Mr. Toste is in great demand and is often asked to make this particular presentation at other schools within the IES organisation.
In Sports our students have been taking part in the Stockholm Schools’ Championships. Thus far we have been involved in football, handball and basketball. Our Year 7 girls’ team will soon play in the handball semi-finals while Thursday January 29th sees our Year 9 boys’ basketball team playing in the National Schools Championships. Opposition will be very tough and we are confident that our teams will once again do us proud. Both the handball and the basketball teams won their respective age group Stockholm Championships Finals last year. Go IESE!
The 17th of February brings with it our Winter Sports Day and a whole series of interesting and enjoyable activities for students to take part in. This is an integral part of our Physical Education program and an excellent opportunity for all staff to interact with students outside the classroom. This is a day that I always very much enjoy participating in.
Friday January 30th is the day for the IES company wide in-service day. This is a celebration of the achievements of our organisation and an opportunity for the staff of all our schools to meet together. Last year our school was awarded the Barbara Bergström Award for being the most improved school in the IES organisation. I am sure that we have an excellent chance of being recognized again this year.
The IES organisation is in a very strong expansive phase. August 2009 sees the start of a new junior school in Gävle, a new “gymnasium” in Gävle and new Middle schools in Jönköping, Karlstad and Sundsvall. We welcome our new member schools and look forward to their making an active positive contribution within all areas of the IES group.
As has been explained earlier, this will be the first time that our Middle school does not prepare for a new Year 6 intake for August 2009. Starting August 2009 our intake will take place in Year 4 and this process is now well under way. We look forward to receiving Year 6 students for the next school year from the newly formed IESE Junior School. I am confident that with the excellent job being done by our Junior School staff and students will give us a flying start to Year 6 next August.
Our PTA has very kindly donated another Interactive Whiteboard to complement the one already in use. This new board will be placed in “Hörsalen” and will be even larger than the classroom model enabling presentations to large groups. It is due to be installed during week 9. We thank our PTA for their excellent contributions to our school. I know that these are very much appreciated by both staff and students. They will be put to excellent use.
Please visit the update section of our web page to find out more about our excellent school.
Kindest regards,

Welcome to the Internationella Engelska Skolan Enskede
As we move into the latter part of the school year everyone is busy with the myriad of interesting activities still to take place. Our students continue to make fantastic progress in all areas and we are very pleased with how they have developed throughout the year.
Four of our students represented IESE in outstanding fashion in the company-wide Dr. Hans Bergström Essay Writing Competition. This year the assignment was to write about a famous scientist or inventor who had made a significant contribution to society. The essays were written in English and each of our nine schools submitted 6 entries. IESE student Tian from Year 9 was awarded first prize consisting of 5000sek and a certificate. Sara from Year 8 at IESE was awarded the second prize of 3000sek and a certificate. Two of our other students, Robert Year 8 and Kunal Year 9, were given honourable mentions. The awards were presented at head office in Täby by the Executive Director of the Nobel Foundation Michael Sohlman michael.sohlman@nobel.se who also presented winners with a signed text about the Nobel Foundation. This was an amazing performance by our students. Well done!
In sports we continue to be active, and our Year 8 boys will soon be playing in the final of the Stockholm Schools Championships. Congratulations to them on getting so far as they often find themselves facing teams from basketball profile schools. Check our update page for more information. Many of our students have entered for the IGCSE Science and Mathematics awards and will be sitting external exams very soon. We are quietly confident that our students will avail themselves well in this world recognised examination and obtain an international receipt for their knowledge not normally available to students in this country. Good luck to everyone taking part. End of term is an extremely busy time for our students of year 9. There are lots of exciting and challenging things to be experienced at our school during the short time that remains. These include among other things the securing of grades, the Prom and, of course, Graduation. It is of course very important that students are focussed on doing their best so that everyone can have a fantastic end of year here at the IESE.
Year 9 students are also looking forward to moving on to their next educational phase, namely their move to the Gymnasium. It is quite usual for students to feel the need for new challenges as they move toward the end of their 9th school year. At the same time many are sad at the thought of leaving friends and apprehensive as to how things will go for them in their new schools. I am confident that our talented students, well prepared for that which lies ahead, will thrive in their respective chosen new environments. We very much look forward to August and the launch of our fantastic new Junior School here at IESE. We are very busy with all of the activities associated with a development of this dignity. These include the creation of a new playground, Student Room, Home Economics room and Craft Room etc. We are confident that this new dimension to our school will be of immense benefit to our students. Please check out our update page to find out more about the interesting and exciting things taking place at our school. Kindest Regards, Robert Clark Principal IESE
