Welcome to IESK / Välkommen till IESK!

The sound of over two thousand feet is finally heard in our buildings. We have eagerly awaited our students' arrival and now it's time to reveal our proactive new projects that are underway.

What is now on offer?

The Internationella Engelska Skolan in Eskilstuna now offers students from Grade 4 to 9 the opportunity to master English and Swedish in a safe, secure environment equipped to the exacting standards of the organisation.

What makes us different?

  • The Senior School has won the award for the best school in the organization for the past two academic years and the highest results in Mathematics, English, Swedish and the DN Orientering competition in Södermanland since its inception in August 2006.
  • Students at our schools are mentored throughout their six year long educational journey by highly trained specialist educators, the majority of whom have English as their native language.   Two buildings have been beautifully renovated and are being equipped for our students.
  • The school offers students the opportunity to develop personal responsibility for achieving academic excellence and the social and emotional skills necessary to achieve their individual potential in society.

How do we register our child?

Should you be interested in placing your child at our school please click on the "Student Applications" button on the left.

Home languages?  Of course!

Tuition in student's mother tongue is scheduled at both schools.   Teachers are coordinated through the Eskilstuna Education Authorities.   The school assists parents and students with applications and information.

What about Student Care and free time?

The facilities for students to use when not in the classroom have been specially designed and will be decorated and equipped for students to enjoy time reflecting, socializing, reading or studying with each other and staff members.

These facilities are run by professional educators who focus on providing a variety of inspiring programmes for students during recreation time.

Both schools have a school nurse and counsellor available to students at specific times.

What about discipline and respect?

The school follows a tough love policy.  Our campuses are closed and students may not leave the school property without written permission.  School rules are consistently implemented and are written to ensure a quiet and safe learning environment for all.

The school rules are founded on respect, firstly for yourself and then for your fellow students, educators and school environment.

The school has a variety of plans in place to support students in learning to embrace the values of respect, discipline and personal responsibility. Students who may face challenges with discipline are supported individually by their mentors and the Student Care Team.

How do we communicate with home?

Both schools run SchoolSoft enabling continual contact between the home and teachers on every area of the students' school life.  Parents and students have access to real time attendance for each lesson, learning plans for each lesson, homework and assessment dates and other current events and information.

Mentors have bi-weekly contact with the home via email, telephone calls or newsletters.  Subject teachers and parents are encouraged to communicate directly regarding individual issues that arise from time to time.

What facilities does the Senior School now offer?

Our Math and Science laboratories are equipped with the latest technology and materials to ensure that every student's sense of curiosity and learning are continually stimulated.

Our Aesthetic Department consisting of Home Economics, Woodwork, Physical Education, Art and Music each have individual rooms designed to provide students with the space and facilities needed to excel in these important subjects.

Learning outside the classroom - Senior School

Students also benefit from a full media centre, computer rooms and an auditorium. The Modern Languages, English, Swedish and Social Science departments each have an area over and above the class room environment dedicated to enriching students' learning.

These subject specific Learning Centres are dynamic and are used throughout the academic year to display students' work, informative displays and subject specific events encouraging learning through a variety of methods.

The Senior School houses a library which includes a learning centre. It will be opened this term and equipped with computers for use by all our students.

Life Skills - equipping you for life

A Life Skills session is on every Grade 7 to 9 student's schedule.  At IES Eskilstuna we know that students need much more than just academic education. We are committed to ensuring our students receive the education they need on a social, emotional and physical level.

Life Skills means that  Educators are now further empowered to share  their wisdom and experience on a wide variety of topics such as study skills, empathy and communication, dealing with conflicts, friendship, equality and anti-bullying.

The scope is too broad to mention in this update. Below is a diagram showing which areas of a student's learning are incorporated into this essential weekly session.

Presenters are of course our own team of professional Educators and specialist outside organisations. A detailed schedule will be given to each Year Group during Week 35.
