Modern Languages
Hola a todos!!
Hi there!
Bonjour tout le monde!
Hallo, wie geht’s?
We have had a very busy term! Ms. S-Johansson in Spanish and Mr. Bäckryd in French are our two new members of the Modern Language Team in IESK. Both have a lot of experience and knowledge to show the best to our students.
Here are some words from our new Spanish teacher: Buenas tardes, My name is Mrs S-johansson or as the students call me señora S-Johansson. I love Spanish and hope that the students will feel the same. I want them to come out in the world prepared to meet people from different countries. Hasta siempre
And I will present our new French teacher, Monsieur Backryd, an enthusiastic French teacher who is burning for his subject! He is born and grown up in France with Swedish parents and is therefore fully bilingual; not only in the language but also to the culture.
Now to the work:
Each year group is working with different types of projects in French. Year group 6 has recently been baking a French recipe and has had a French party. Year 7 and 8 are working with different role plays to learn how to use the language in different everyday life situations. Year group 9 is working with a film-project this term. They are creating their own films in small groups.
In Spanish we have had a great time with the Fiestas that grade 6 had at the beginning of the term and the dance and guacamole from the other grades. Now week 16th they will do a grammar assessment and we feel that our students are well prepared to go to High School level in August.
But now together we are working very hard for our special Eurovision Song Contest at IESK We are so exited!!! All the other schools in the organization are invited to this event the 29th of April. Monday the 29th of March we selected our representatives one in Spanish: Miss Diana Mosa and one in French, Mademoiselle Amanda Öberg..
Not only do we teach the students how to use the language, but also we tell them about the culture, major cities and different traditions of the countries where those languages are spoken.
Thank you so much
Mrs. M. Holmgren

Math update
March is a great month for the math department with a lot of extracurricular activities. Last week we participated in a world record setting activity, World Math Day. We would like to congratulate all the students at IESK for being part of the new record. 1,133,246 students and 56,082 schools from 235 countries have united to set a new world record by correctly answering 479,732,613 questions. The best classes at IESK were 6D, 7B, 8A and 9D.
During this week we have been celebrating Pi-day, with a math lab for all classes in the younger grades, learning what π is and why it is so great. Some classes have brought in real pie as wellJ.
Internationella Engelska Skolan i Eskilstuna will also participate in the Kangaroo competition, which starts up this week.
On top of all these activities we are happy to announce that we will start up a Math club for interested students. Mr. Lars Wetterling from Mälardalens högskola will begin the program next week and we are hoping to have many interested students.
Have a nice Mathematical Spring,
Mr. Findén
