Swedish
Great skills in your native language is the first step towards success.
The Swedish Department believes that in order to optimize your opportunity to succeed with your studies you need a special set of skills. You need to learn how to acquire the knowledge you need for a specific task, to tell good information from bad information, and be able to summarize and combine it into what is required by the task at hand. Finally you need to know how to share your knowledge with others, by using the appropriate oral and written skills to make yourself heard.
The Swedish Department works to encourage the joy of reading, which is central to our subject. To this aim our students have some time to read during each lesson. We use our school library and visit the public library so that students can familiarize themselves with different types of literature.
The Swedish Department also works with other institutions outside of school, such as the County Museum in Gävle, where we make literary visits with our Year 9 students. We have also visited the Stig Dagerman Museum in Älvkarleby, and the Emigrant Museum in Alfta within our literature studies. We also have a good cooperation with the local police department, who have visited us in connection with our crime story unit.
Over the years, our students have also been successful in several national literary contests. We are very proud of their achievements, and look to the future with confidence that our students will continue to do well.
