Professional teacher commitment
Professional teacher commitment at IES means:
We want our schools to be the best. Like any other competition in life this goal requires more than the "lagom" teacher. This factor is emphasised robustly at teacher interviews.
We strive to recruit certified and highly qualified teachers. Our teachers are counted on to have exceptional knowledge in their specific subject areas, as well as having teaching qualification from their native countries. These prerequisites are essential also when recruiting staff from England, USA, Canada and other English speaking countries. Modern language teachers in French and Spanish are often from countries where the language is spoken and most of our teachers have teaching credentials from their respective countries.
All academic subjects provide extra lesson support. Often called "Surgeries", these sessions are utilised by teachers to provide extra instruction. Support teachers can also be brought into lessons where necessary.
Surgeries are extra support lessons where students are invited or instructed to attend.
Parents are informed if a child is to attend surgery and if the child fails to attend surgery.
Year 6 is recognised as a transitional year in the bi-lingual environment and students are treated accordingly, receiving extra care in the form of homerooms or a specialised Head of Year.
Year 7-9 have 2 mentors to every class. Each teacher "adopts" 15 students.
Mentor times are scheduled every week.
