Geo-engineering won Bromma student victory in the 2010 essay competition
Viktor Cheng, IES Bromma, was awarded first prize, 5000 SEK, in this year´s essay competition, on the theme “Climate Change”. Mr Cheng wrote about “geo-engineering”, the new field of technologies aimed at mitigating the impact of increased green-house gases in the atmosphere.
At the gymnasium level, first prize went to Mr Simon Kendall, for his essay “Climate changed: A pessimist´s perspective on global warming”.
The jury this year consisted of Dr Hans Bergstrom (also the donor of the prize), Mr Peter John Fyles and Mr Jan-Olov Johansson, the founder of Sweden´s science radio. Each of the eleven IES “grundskolor” nominated up to six contributions for final scrutiny by the jury. The list of winners is found below.
Notable is that two brilliant seven graders made the top list: Himashi Kodikara, Enskede, and André Nilsson, Sundsvall.
Awards and diplomas will be presented at a special award ceremony, planned for June 3rd 10:30 at IES Enskede.
