Results from our IESE charity work 2010
The IESE Student council is made up of representatives from each class in years 6 through 9. The purpose of this democratic forum is to enable IESE students to contribute toward the positive development of our school. Our Student Council also seeks to do things for others in greater need. There are, for instance, people in the world who have recently gone through a series of horrible catastrophes and natural disasters. The IESE Student Council is there to help.
At the begining of this school year the IESE Student Council decided to raise money for “Rädda Barnen” foundation in Sweden. The representatives from all classes started to think about ideas and ways of raising money in the most effective way. Ideas developed throughout the whole year and gradually formed into concrete actions. The IESE Student Council created the idea of having a “Charity week”.
First activity during the week was the “Charity Walk”. Our vision was to raise money by letting sponsors offering bids to the participants. During Friday the 7th of April all students of IESE went out and tried to collect as many laps as possible during one hour. Most sponsors paid a set amount per lap the student gathered. Through this walk we got 21874 SEK. Keeping in mind that this was the first time this was done that is a fantastic result.
Next up the Student Council organized an 80’s Charity Dance. Our thought was mainly to create a fun way of raising money for those in need. All earnings from the dance went to the charity. Through the dance we got 6000 SEK. Our PTA assisted the event by donating food items to be sold during the dance
We also decided to donate all the earnings from our student café during this week to charity. The café profit was 7746 SEK.
Just before Christmas we held a Talent show for our students and through the entry fees and donations during that we raised 4000 SEK. Raising money for those in need should not be something we turn our heads away from. It is very important to see the importance of being helpful, compassionate and to help when you have the ability of doing it.
In order to demonstrate support for this fantastic student initiative the IESE school also donated 10 000 SEK to the fund.
On Monday 31st may a representative from Räddda Barnen will visit our school to receive a cheque for 50 000 SEK earmarked to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
