Dear parents and students

I am writing this letter to inform you about some of the plans for IESÖ.  At the moment I am functioning as the interim principal of our school and I am really excited to be working together with the parents and staff of the school and to be overall responsible for all our students.

I started my work here as Assistant Principal in June and previously I worked as a team leader and teacher at one of our sister IES schools in Järfälla, Stockholm. Since my arrival I have noted many areas of IESÖ that are working really well but simultaneously I have seen parts of the daily school work that I and the staff can and will improve.

As it is now we are working with both short term and long term plans; this will include; refocussing on the IES ethos, improving classroom management skills and ensuring top class mentorship, wherein mentors contact home to parents once every 14 days. Naturally, we are continually working on creating a quiet calm working environment in the school and good student behaviour in class and in the corridors is a priority.

Finally, we are going to evaluate and discuss other areas such as academic results and to this end IESÖ will be receiving the centrally run “Study Smart” support programme from HQ in the Spring term and I will be monitoring progress thoroughly to see if we need to add any further teaching or manpower resources into the school.

I feel that I have the support from the PTA, teachers and the Head Office and I am confident that this school is going to make a bright future. The most important incentive for all of us is the really nice group of students we have at IESÖ and I am proud to work with them today and into the future.

With sincere appreciation,

Mr. Nils Rutqvist

Interim Principal/Assistant Principal

Welcome to IES Örebro

Thank you for visiting the home page of Internationella Engelska Skolan i Örebro.

IES Örebro believes strongly in academic excellence, coupled with a firm commitment to student care. Our staff members are dedicated professionals who work hard to bring quality education and a safe, secure environment to the students. Our students are motivated young people who are at this school to become the best. The school enjoys strong parent support and the PTA is a welcome addition to the school community.

We believe in some founding principles.
Amoung them are:
--quiet and productive classrooms
--’tough love’ in character education, and
--repect for oneself and each other.

Currently, there are some 42 staff members and 485 students at IESÖ. We have a school nurse, counsellor, special education teacher, and assistant principal to work with Student Care. The school community’s ‘red thread’ is our web-based school information system, SchoolSoft. With this tool, students and parents can check up-to-the-minute results and plans in the school. We believe strongly in great communication between the school and the home, and SchoolSoft provides this ability.

Internationella Engelska Skolan i Örebro is continually striving to improve its academic excellence and student care through new and innovative ideas, like SchoolSoft and Verbal Judo. We take great pride in our growth from our inception in 2003 to today.

Year 6 and 7 Term Evaluations (Betygs-Liknande Omdömen)

The following information is also posted on SchoolSoft.

All students in Years 6 & 7 will now be receiving 'grade like assessment': 'G', 'VG', 'MVG'. These are given throughout the year, in conjunction with an assessment. All Year 6 & 7 students will also receive a 'Term Evaluation' at the end of each term which is published by mentors as a 'Student Document'. You will be able to see these on SchoolSoft.

Grade like assessment is based on year level expectation of the goals that should be reached in Year 9.
